Seems glass ceiling for women folks is an all pervasive phenomena. Recent report by Rosenzweig and Co. Inc., a corporate recruitment
firm has asserted the view point put forward by me. Women in very less numbers are actually taking over the high profile jobs in Canada’s largest public companies. If we compare this with the past year’s ratio, we find that from 37, the fraction has come down to 31. Just 31 women hold the highest-paid executive jobs in the 100 largest publicly traded companies.
Some major banks hit the list of the largest 100 public companies, while the firms included Enbridge, CanWest Global Communications, Alcan and Canadian Pacific Railway.
Why is there so little progress in promoting women?
As Pamela Jeffery, president of the Women’s Executive Network postulates that women confront four challenges getting to leadership that men don’t face:
First is the gender discrimination: Men are promoted at a quicker pace than women even if they are not as much professionally qualified than them.
Second is the stereotypical notion: which corresponds to the male ego again, leadership qualities in women are considered to be abrasive and pushy while the same characteristics in male managers are always seen as positives.
Third is the leadership style: women have to struggle as to strike a consonance between compassion and empathy with the male-oriented assertion and control that is seen as necessary in management.
Fourth is the balance between professional and family life which they are subjected to make because of the unwritten laws enforced by the chauvinistic ridden society. Women have taken long strides and have been through many testimonials in order to prove their efficacy towards work along with their household chores, yet this gender prejudice especially regarding pay and incentives is all pervasive.Can anybody tell me, why?
